Map Instructions

View Map

• Searching. There are several search criteria you can specify to limit the group of properties shown on the map and in the Property List. As soon as you change any of these criteria, the map and the Property List are updated automatically.

• Quick Summaries. To quickly see the street address, rent, and the number of bedrooms and bathrooms for a property, move the mouse over the property's marker on the map and the information will appear in a small yellow box below the marker. The box disappears when you move the mouse away from the marker. The ID number directly below a marker allows you to easily find the line relating to the property in the Property List in the sidebar and in the Favorites List below the map.

• Property List. The list of properties in the sidebar to the right of the map shows all properties satisfying the current search criteria. The Fav checkbox on each row can be used to toggle the favorite status of a property on and off. Click the ID number to centre the map around the property's location, zoom in to the third highest level, and show the property's information panel.

• Property Detail. To see detailed information about a property in the sidebar to the right of the map, click its marker on the map or click its ID number in the Property List. The information panel which appears covers the Property List normally found in the sidebar; click the close box to close the panel and reveal the list once again.

  Click the ID number in the information panel to centre the map around the property's location and zoom in to the third highest level.

• Favorites. To identify a property as a favorite so that it can be included in a slide show and so that it appears in the Favorites List below the map, check the Favorite box in its information panel or its Fav box in the Property List. Alternatively, toggle the favorite status on and off by clicking the property's marker on the map while holding down the Option key (on Macintosh) or the Alt key (on Windows). (Sorry, this shortcut isn't available if you are using the Firefox browser.) The marker for a property identified as a favorite is .

  There are also several buttons in the bar below the map for marking groups of properties as favorites: Mark All as Favorites (all properties satisfying the current search criteria), Mark Visible as Favorites (all properties visible within the map frame), Mark Recent as Favorites (all properties added in the past 14 days), and Mark None as Favorites. To show just favorite properties on the map, check the Show only favorites box.

• Services. To show services on the map, check one or more of the boxes on the Services line in the bar below the map. To see more information about a service, click its marker and an information balloon will appear. Click the close box in the top right corner of the balloon to close it.

• Slide Show. To begin a slide show of the group of properties marked as favorites, click the Start Slide Show button in the bar above the map; click it again (when the button reads Stop Slide Show) to end the show. Specify the duration each slide is to appear on the screen in the seconds per slide box (5 to 99 seconds). While a slide show is playing, use the controller above the map to go back to the previous slide, pause or resume the slide show, and go immediately to the next slide . You can play a slide show manually by pausing the show after starting it, then using the control to advance to the next slide when you're ready.

• Zooming. Change the scale of the map by using the slider and the and controls on the left side of the map to zoom in and out. Zoom in until the markers don't overlap so that you can see more easily where individual properties are located.

  You can zoom in to a specific area of the map by dragging a rectangle across the area of interest. To do this, hold down a Shift key while clicking and dragging the mouse from one corner of the rectangle to the opposite corner, then release the mouse button. To cancel the operation, release the Shift key before releasing the mouse button.

• Centering. Centre the map around a location by double-clicking (outside the area of a marker) at the desired location (this also zooms the map in by one level). Return to the original location by clicking the button surrounded by the four panning arrows in the top left corner of the map (this also restores the initial map scale).

• Panning. View neighbouring areas by clicking (outside the area of a marker) and dragging the mouse or by using the four panning arrows in the top left corner of the map. You can also go directly to an area by choosing its name from the Area popup menu in the bar above the map.

• Changing View. Select a standard street map view, a satellite view, or a terrain view by using the Map, Satellite, and Terrain buttons in the top right corner of the map. (To show satellite imagery with street names, check the Show labels box which appears in a drop-down menu beneath the Satellite button when you click it.)
